Suffolk County Council childcare development officer was suspended after it was discovered he had lied about his criminal record, a court has heard.
John Locke was required to complete a disclosure form in 2004 to enable his employers to carry out a criminal records bureau check to make sure he didn’t have any relevant previous convictions, Ipswich Crown Court was told.
Locke had not mentioned on the form he had a criminal conviction dating back to 1996 and had also failed to disclose he had previously been known by two other surnames.
Locke, 33 of Cambridge Drive, Ipswich, has denied obtaining a financial advantage by deception by making false representations on a disclosure form.
David Wilson, prosecuting, told the court Locke had worked as a child care development worker for Suffolk Acre, an independent registered charity, working for Suffolk County Council.
In April 2004, the work done by Suffolk Acre was taken “ in house” by Suffolk County Council and Locke became a child care support and development worker for the county council.
As part of the transfer, he was required to complete a disclosure form to enable a criminal records bureau check to be carried out.
On the form, Locke failed to mention he had a conviction in 1996 under the name of John Farme, the court heard.
