Probe targets head Martin Price of children's services

THE head of children's services at Neath Port Talbot Council has been suspended.

Probe targets head Martin Price of children's services
March 01 2006

Council chiefs confirmed today a senior officer was being investigated for "administrative and procedural" matters.

They would not confirm the officer's name but the Post has learned it is Martin Price, who runs children's services for the authority.

He is the third senior officer to be suspended by the council in a year. It was discovered in March last year that Margam Park manager Ray Butt had been suspended after allegations, which have not been revealed publicly, were made against him. Mr. Butt is still off work.

In June last year it was confirmed that an unnamed senior officer had been suspended after being accused of using council computers to circulate obscene pictures and other offensive material.

The officer in question no longer works for the authority. 'But whether he or she was sacked or resigned has not been revealed.

The head of strategic personnel for Neath Port Talbot, Graham Jones, said: "I can confirm that a senior officer within the council has been suspended from duty.'

"An investigation into an administrative and procedural matter is being 'Undertaken." Mr. Price could not be contacted for Comment.

Fassit Comment: Perhaps Mr Price and his Dept were fed up with all the questions? This was one of many Fassit questions or FOI requests sent to Martin Price just over a month ago with no reply?

Dear Mr Price,

I understand from an article in the Times, January 14th 2006, that,

"Teachers on List 99 can appeal to the Care Standards Tribunal, a body established in 1999 under the Protection of Children Act. It hears cases involving registers of childminders, social workers and other social services staff and healthcare agencies." Times

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 would you please provide me with details of the number (if any) of childminders, social workers and other social services staff employed directly or indirectly by Neath Port Talbot County Council, either currently or during the last five years, who are registered on List 99, or any other register which may involve appeal to the Care Standards Tribunal.

Would you please give exact numbers and dates involved and which specific register they have been placed on.

Response by mail, email would be ideal.

Thanking you in anticipation.

Layton Bevan
